Automatic door opener installation and repair in NYC

Bee Locksmith installs and services automatic swing door operators for storefronts, building lobbies, medical offices and office suites in New York City, Westchester and Long Island. We add low-energy operators to existing doors for ADA access, service full-power operators on busy entrances, and wire the push plates, wave actuators, access control and fire alarm release. Our mobile technicians handle the operator, the door, the lock and the release as one job.

Low-energy and full-power operators

  • Low-energy operators open the door slowly after a "knowing act", such as pressing a push plate or waving at a touchless actuator. They are built to the ANSI/BHMA A156.19 standard and are the usual choice for ADA access on lobby, office and restroom doors.
  • Full-power operators open faster and are triggered by motion sensors as people approach. They are built to the ANSI/BHMA A156.10 standard and need safety sensors on the door. They suit high-traffic storefronts and medical entrances.
  • Many operators can be set up either way. We explain which one fits your door and traffic before quoting.

Installing an operator on an existing door

  • Survey of the door, frame, hinges or pivots, closer and lock to confirm the door can be automated
  • Surface-mounted or concealed operators, push or pull side
  • Push plates, wave-to-open actuators, key switches and wireless buttons, inside and out
  • Power run to the operator, coordinated with the building's electrician where a new circuit is needed
  • Lock and strike changes so the door unlocks before the operator opens it

Access control and fire alarm release

  • Access control: card readers, keypads and intercoms that unlock the door and trigger the operator in sequence; see access control and maglocks and electric strikes
  • Fire alarm release: operators and electrified locks tied to the fire alarm input, so the door releases or stops as the building's life-safety design requires
  • After-hours lockdown: operators switched off or set to card-only at night

Service and repair

  • Operators that will not open, open slowly, stall or slam
  • Doors that hit people, bounce or do not latch after the cycle
  • Dead push plates and actuators, failed batteries in wireless buttons
  • Worn arms, tracks and drive parts, and failed control boards
  • Adjustment for wind and stack pressure on lobby doors

Frequently asked questions

Can you add an automatic opener to our existing door?

Usually yes. Most hinged and pivoted commercial doors can take a low-energy operator. We survey the door, frame, closer and lock first and say in the estimate if anything has to change.

What is the difference between low-energy and full-power operators?

Low-energy operators open slowly after someone presses a button or waves at a sensor, and are built to ANSI/BHMA A156.19. Full-power operators open faster on motion sensors, are built to ANSI/BHMA A156.10 and need safety sensors.

Can the operator work with our card readers and intercom?

Yes. We wire the reader or intercom to unlock the door first and then trigger the operator, so the door never fights the lock.

Does an automatic operator have to tie into the fire alarm?

It depends on the door and the building's life-safety design. Operators and electrified locks have a fire alarm input, and we wire it to match what the building and its fire alarm vendor require.

Which brands do you service?

LCN, dormakaba, Norton, Stanley Access Technologies, Horton, Record and ASSA ABLOY (Besam), among others. We install and service them.

Our automatic door stopped working. Can you come today?

Yes, 24/7. If the operator cannot be fixed on the first visit, we set the door to work manually and lock properly until the part arrives.
