Trash chute door repair and replacement

In a co-op, condo or rental building, the trash chute intake door on each floor is a fire-rated opening into a shaft that runs the height of the building. It has to close on its own and latch every time. Bee Locksmith services and replaces chute intake doors and hardware, and the compactor-room doors at the bottom, so the super isn't propping, tying or taping doors that should shut.

Why chute doors matter

Chute intake doors and the doors to the chute and compactor rooms are fire-rated openings: they must be labeled, self-closing and positively latching so fire and smoke stay in the shaft. A door that hangs open, or a fire label painted over or removed, is a common finding on inspections. We keep the requirement general here; your building's inspection report or the fire department notice says what has to be fixed. See fire door inspections and repairs of deficiencies.

Replacement intake doors

Most intake doors are stainless steel, bottom-hinged hopper doors in standard sizes, with the frame set into the chute throat. We measure the opening, match the size, hinge side and any electric interlock, and install a labeled replacement door with its trim.

Chute cleaning and chute repair

We work on the doors and hardware; we don't build or reline chutes. When a chute needs cleaning, sanitizing, or repair to the shaft, discharge door or compactor, we coordinate with the specialist contractor so the openings are finished when they leave.

Brands

We service and replace intake doors and hardware on chutes from Wilkinson Hi-Rise and Midland Chutes, and source matching replacement doors for most other chute systems.

Compactor rooms and frames

Compactor-room and chute-room doors are usually hollow metal fire doors in steel frames. For door and frame replacement, see hollow metal frames and door replacement; for closers, see commercial door closers.
