Rolling gate repair and storefront security gates in NYC

Bee Locksmith repairs, replaces and installs rolling steel gates and storefront security grilles for retail stores, restaurants, pharmacies and building owners in New York City, Westchester and Long Island, 24/7. Our mobile technicians fix stuck and dropped gates, bent slats, broken springs and failed motors, convert manual gates to motors, and replace padlocks with locks that are harder to cut.

Gates we work on

Property and facilities managers: this work goes on your work order, with your NTE, alongside the doors, locks and security systems in the same building. See facilities & property management.

  • Solid rolling steel gates and doors: interlocking slat curtains that coil above the opening
  • Rolling grilles and see-through gates: rod-and-link or perforated curtains that let people see into the store when it is closed
  • Rolling counter shutters: small rolling doors over service counters, pickup windows and pass-throughs
  • Side-folding and scissor gates on storefronts, vestibules and back doors

Rolling gate repair

  • Gates that are stuck, jammed, crooked or off the guides
  • Bent, torn or missing slats and curtain sections replaced
  • Broken or tired springs re-tensioned or replaced, so the gate lifts without a fight
  • Bottom bars, guides, endlocks and hoods repaired or replaced
  • Hand-crank and chain-hoist gearboxes repaired
  • Emergency calls when a gate will not close at night or will not open in the morning

Motors and manual-to-motor conversion

Most storefront gates can be motorized. We size the operator to the curtain, mount it on the hood or wall, fit a key switch, push buttons or remote, and add the safety devices a motorized gate needs. Where the job needs a new power feed, we coordinate it with a licensed electrician. See gate motors and operators for repairs to existing motors.

Gate locks and padlock alternatives

  • Padlocks and hasps at the bottom bar replaced with locks that are harder to cut and pry
  • Slide-bolt and guide locks that lock the curtain into the guides
  • Center locks and key switches with high-security cylinders, including Mul-T-Lock, keyed to your store or master key system
  • Locks re-keyed after an employee leaves

NYC see-through gate requirement

New York City requires that a security gate installed or replaced on most storefronts, where the gate faces the sidewalk, let people see through most of it when it is closed. The rule, from a 2009 local law, calls for visibility of at least 70 percent of the area the gate covers. In 2026 the City Council repealed the part that would have forced owners to replace existing solid gates, but the requirement still applies when a gate is newly installed or replaced. Landmarked buildings and historic districts have their own rules. This is general information, not legal advice: when we quote a new or replacement storefront gate, we spec a see-through grille, and your architect or expediter can confirm what applies to your building.

Brands we install and service

Frequently asked questions

My rolling gate is stuck halfway. What should I do?

Don't force it or keep hitting the motor. Call us at 212-837-4444. A stuck gate is usually a slat off the guide, a broken spring or a failed motor, and forcing it can drop the curtain.

Can you add a motor to my manual storefront gate?

Usually yes. We size the operator to the gate, mount it and add the controls. If a new power feed is needed, we coordinate it with a licensed electrician.

Do new storefront gates in NYC have to be see-through?

Generally yes. A security gate installed or replaced on a storefront facing the sidewalk has to let people see through at least 70 percent of it when it is closed, with exceptions for landmarks and historic districts. Existing solid gates no longer have to be replaced by a deadline. This is general information, not legal advice.

Can you replace the padlocks on our gate?

Yes. We fit slide-bolt, guide and center locks and high-security cylinders that are harder to cut than a padlock, keyed to your store system.

Do you replace gate springs?

Yes. Spring work is dangerous without the right tools, so leave it to us. We re-tension or replace the springs and balance the gate.

Do you service gates at several store locations?

Yes. We work for retail chains and property managers across NYC, Westchester and Long Island, with one invoice format and your PO or work-order number.
