Hikvision camera service, upgrades and migration

Many New York buildings and stores already have Hikvision cameras and recorders. Bee Locksmith services those systems, keeps them working, and plans upgrades or migrations to other platforms when the owner is ready or a project requires it. Cameras are installed by our own low-voltage technicians, who also service the doors, locks, access control and intercoms on the same opening.

What we do for Hikvision systems

Property and facilities managers: this work goes on your work order, with your NTE, alongside the doors, locks and security systems in the same building. See facilities & property management.

  • Troubleshooting cameras, NVRs, hard drives, PoE and cabling
  • Firmware updates, password changes and remote viewing cleanup
  • Recorder replacement and storage upgrades
  • Phased migration to other camera platforms, reusing cabling where it makes sense
  • NDAA-compliant replacement options when a project, tenant or funding source requires them

Where Hikvision stands in the US

The FCC has placed Hikvision on its Covered List and no longer grants new equipment authorizations for its video surveillance equipment. Separately, Section 889 of the federal National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) restricts federal agencies and federal contractors from buying it, and limits its use on many federally funded projects. Requirements depend on the project, so if yours involves government work or funding, confirm them with the agency or your counsel. This page is general information, not legal advice.

Planning a migration

A migration doesn't have to happen all at once. We survey the cameras, recorder, cabling and switches, then propose a plan: replace the recorder and cameras together, or phase it by floor or by store. Common replacement platforms include Axis, InVid Tech, IQSIGHT (formerly Bosch) and UniFi Protect. Existing Cat5e/Cat6 runs can often be reused after testing; see network infrastructure.

The doorDoor division: service, fabrication and install.
The lockLocksmiths: cylinders, keying and hardware.
The releaseLow voltage: strikes, maglocks, readers and intercoms.
The door, the lock, and the release are one job. We don't hand that off.

Frequently asked questions

Can you still service our Hikvision cameras?

Yes. We troubleshoot and repair existing Hikvision systems, update firmware, and replace failed recorders or drives.

Do we have to replace our Hikvision system?

Not necessarily. Requirements depend on your project and funding. Many private buildings keep existing systems running; projects tied to federal work or funding may have to use other equipment. Check with the agency or your counsel.

What are NDAA-compliant options?

Equipment from manufacturers not covered by the NDAA Section 889 restrictions. We specify brands such as Axis and InVid Tech NDAA lines when a project requires it.

Can we reuse our cabling when we migrate?

Often yes. We test the existing runs and reuse what passes.

Can you migrate one location at a time?

Yes. Multi-site migrations are usually phased by store or by building.
