Overhead concealed closer repair and replacement in NYC
Bee Locksmith repairs, replaces and converts overhead concealed closers (OHCs) in aluminum storefront and glass door headers for storefronts, lobbies, office suites and retail chains in New York City, Westchester and Long Island. An OHC is hidden in the header with only the arm and track showing, so when it fails it is easy to misdiagnose. Our mobile technicians open the header, identify the closer, and replace it or convert it to a closer that fits.
Where overhead concealed closers are used
- Aluminum storefront entrances: the closer body sits in the header tube above the door and drives the door through an arm in the top rail
- Glass doors in a frame or with a top rail: the closer sits in the transom or header and connects through the top patch fitting or rail
- Interior doors with in-door closers: some concealed closers mount in the top of the door with the track in the frame, such as the LCN 3130 Series

Header and arm problems we fix
- Doors that slam, drift or will not latch because the closer leaks or will not hold an adjustment
- Broken, bent or disconnected arms, worn track rollers and stripped spindles
- Closers that have shifted in the header, loose mounting clips and cracked header screws
- Doors that sag or rub because the pivots or offset arms under the closer are worn
- Hold-open that no longer holds, or will not release
Replacements and conversions
- Like-for-like: same closer body, arm and spindle, so the header and door need no new prep
- Conversions: when the original closer is discontinued, we fit a current closer to the existing header and arm prep where possible, using the manufacturer's retrofit parts
- Surface to concealed, or concealed to surface: we explain what each conversion involves for your header and door before quoting
- We say in the estimate when a part is in stock and when it has to be ordered
Overhead concealed closers we install, replace and service
- Rixson: Rixson concealed closers already in older headers, replaced like-for-like where parts exist or converted to a current closer
- dormakaba (DORMA): RTS88 Series, which dormakaba describes as fitting a 1-3/4 x 4 inch aluminum header and as a retrofit for some other concealed closers
- FHC (Frameless Hardware Company): F900 Series overhead concealed closers
- CRL (C.R. Laurence): overhead concealed closer bodies such as the CRL9970
- LCN: 2030 Series concealed in narrow aluminum transoms, and 3130 Series concealed in interior doors
- We do not claim dealer status for these brands; we install, replace and service them.
Who we work for
- Storefronts and retail chains: entrance doors that have to open all day and still close and lock at night
- Building lobbies: glass and aluminum entrances that take heavy traffic, wind and weather
- Office suites: glass suite doors and interior Herculite-style doors with concealed closers
- Property managers and multi-location businesses: one vendor, one invoice format, and the same hardware spec across sites
Frequently asked questions
How do I know if my storefront door has an overhead concealed closer?
If there is no closer body on the door or frame and no floor plate, but there is an arm or track at the top of the door, it is almost always an overhead concealed closer in the header.
Can an overhead concealed closer be repaired, or does it need replacing?
Arms, rollers, tracks and mounting clips can be replaced. A closer body that leaks oil or will not hold an adjustment is replaced.
My closer is discontinued. Do I need a new header?
Not usually. Most failed OHCs can be replaced with a current closer that fits the existing header, sometimes with adapter or retrofit parts. We check before quoting.
Do you work on dormakaba RTS88 and LCN 2030 closers?
Yes. We install, replace and service dormakaba RTS88, LCN 2030 and 3130, Rixson, FHC and CRL overhead concealed closers, among others.
Can you convert a surface closer to a concealed closer?
Sometimes. It depends on the header size and the door. We survey the opening and explain what the conversion takes before any work starts.
