Knocked-down vs. welded frames

Hollow metal frames come two ways. Knocked-down (KD) frames ship in pieces and are assembled at the opening, which makes them practical for existing drywall walls and tight buildings. Welded frames are welded at the factory into one piece and set as the wall is built, usually in masonry; they are stiffer and are the norm for heavy-use and many fire-rated openings. When we replace a frame, we match the type, depth, profile and rating of the opening.

Frame repair

Fire-rated doors and frames

A fire-rated opening needs a labeled door, a labeled frame and fire-rated hardware. When a fire door or frame is damaged past repair, we replace it with a labeled assembly of the required rating and fit the closer and latching hardware. Seals, gasketing and thresholds
