Exit alarm and panic bar alarm installation in NYC

Bee Locksmith installs, replaces and repairs exit alarms, alarmed panic bars, delayed egress devices and stair re-entry hardware for retail stores, office buildings, apartment buildings and property managers in New York City, Westchester and Long Island. Our technicians fit the hardware to the door, test the alarm and the egress, and key it to your system.

What we install

Property and facilities managers: this work goes on your work order, with your NTE, alongside the doors, locks and security systems in the same building. See facilities & property management.

  • Alarmed panic bars and exit control locks: the door opens for anyone leaving, and a loud alarm sounds
  • Battery door alarms mounted on the door, with key-controlled arming and an entry or exit delay
  • Delayed egress exit devices: when someone pushes the bar, the alarm sounds and the door releases after a short delay, where the code allows it
  • Alarmed exit devices tied to access control, door contacts and remote annunciators
  • Stair re-entry hardware: electrified trim and locks that let people get back onto a floor from the stairwell, or unlock on fire alarm

Retail back doors and roof doors

The back door of a store is where stock walks out, and the roof door of a building is where people get onto the roof who should not. An alarmed exit device keeps the door available as an emergency exit while making any use of it loud. We pick hardware that suits the door, the frame and the traffic, and can tie the alarm to cameras or access control.

Delayed egress and stair re-entry, in general terms

Delayed egress is only allowed in certain buildings, usually with a sprinkler or fire alarm system, required signage and a release on fire alarm. Stair re-entry rules in high-rise buildings generally require that people in a stairwell can get back onto a floor, or that stair doors unlock when the fire alarm activates. Which rules apply depends on the building. This is general information, not legal advice: we install to the spec your architect, expediter or the building requires.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between an exit alarm and delayed egress?

An exit alarm lets the door open right away and sounds an alarm. Delayed egress holds the door for a short delay while the alarm sounds, then releases. Delayed egress is only allowed where the building and fire code permit it.

Can I lock my store's back door so nobody can leave through it?

Not if it is a required exit: exits must open from inside. An alarmed panic bar keeps the exit legal while alerting staff whenever it is used.

Can you put an alarm on our roof door?

Yes. We install alarmed exit hardware or a door alarm, and can tie it to cameras or access control.

Our exit alarm keeps going off. Can you fix it?

Usually. False alarms often come from a weak battery, a door that does not latch fully or a worn device. We test and repair the device and the door.

What is stair re-entry?

In many high-rise buildings, people in a stairwell must be able to get back onto a floor, or the stair doors must unlock on fire alarm. We install the electrified locks and trim that do this.

Do you install Detex and Von Duprin hardware?

Yes. We install and service Detex exit alarms and exit control locks, Von Duprin exit devices and Alarm Lock door alarms.
