Weekly check for store managers
- Does the door close fully on its own from wide open, without slamming?
- Does it latch or lock every time, including the bottom bolt or rod if there is one?
- Is there oil on the floor or the door near the closer? (A leaking closer needs replacement.)
- Does the door drag on the floor or rub the frame at the top?
- Do the key and cylinder turn smoothly, and does the deadbolt throw fully?
- Does the push bar or exit device release easily from the inside?
- Are the threshold and weatherstrip intact?

Common causes we find
- Worn top or bottom pivots and offset arms, causing sagging and dragging
- Concealed or floor closers that have lost fluid
- Narrow-stile deadlocks and cylinders worn from heavy use or forced entry
- Exit devices out of adjustment after a door is hit or moved
- Strikes and maglocks out of line with the door
Standardize across locations
- One hardware specification for every store: closer model, lock, cylinder and exit device
- One restricted keyway and master key system, so district managers carry one key
- One vendor and one invoice, with work orders and status reported back to the office
- Spare cylinders and common parts kept on the account for faster repairs
